The Mathematics (General) undergraduate course came into being at the same time our college was established in the year 1961. Subsequently, in 2011, a B.Sc. (Honours) course in Mathematics, also known as Mathematics (Honours), was introduced for undergraduate students. Following the implementation of the New Educational Policy (NEP) of Calcutta University under Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF 2022), our department offers a 4-year Honours with Research course in Mathematics and also a 3-year Multidisciplinary Course (MDC) in Mathematics. An interdisciplinary course (IDC) is also offered to the students.
The department has a dedicated high speed wi-fi connection for use by teachers and students. In addition to physical classes inside the departmental premises, online classes through Google Meet are also held. The students also have the opportunity to develop their programming skills using languages like Python and C as part of a restructured curriculum.
The mission of the department is to transform our students to competent and motivated professionals with theoretical and practical knowledge of mathematics and to provide graduate students with a strong foundation so as to be able to join post-graduate courses at best universities, IITs and NITs.
