Surendranath Evening College, affiliated to the University of Calcutta, is one of the premier evening colleges in eastern India. It was founded by Surendranath Banerjee, one of the stalwarts of India’s freedom movement. Itis in the heart of the cosmopolitan city, Kolkata, adjacent to Sealdah railway station and not far from Howrah railway station. As a passionate patriot of the Indian freedom movement and an exceptional educationist cum politician, Sir Surendranath Banerjee envisioned education as the key to empowerment. In alignment with his legacy, our college provides holistic and quality-based education to students from every stratum of the society. We aim to equip them with knowledge, employable skills, and a varied perspective, enabling them to become responsible citizens of tomorrow.

Surendranath Evening College offers nineteen subjects and has a faculty strength of sixty three. The faculty of all departments are highly qualified and competent. Most of the faculty are engaged in research activities and act as resource persons in different fields. Most of them publish regularly in journals of national and international repute.
The Library situated on the 1st floor of the main building of this college. It provides an ideal environment for intellectual enquiry with its multiple study space, research assistance, and reading, learning and instructional resources. ICT facilities established to provide much needed services to support excellence in Teaching- Learning, Research and Extension.
The college has a rich IT infrastructure that stands like a backbone for the amicable functioning of the college. There are more than 100 computers including desktops and laptops in different departmental laboratories, office terminals and administrative purposes including Principal, Vice-Principal, Bursar, IQAC, Examination section, teachers’ room etc.
